how to keep your fridge clean

i hope you guys are going to enjoy this blog post on how to keep your fridge clean and organized. cleaning the fridge from the start is a lot of work- it’s like a mini workout, it takes time and energy but the results are worth it. my biggest tip to keeping an organized fridge is meal planning. we meal plan once a week. it makes dinner so easy, we only buy what we need and we don’t throw out a lot of food.

empty out your fridge – take everything out and place all of the items on your kitchen counter.

*if you don’t have a lot of counter space or time, you don’t have to empty out the whole fridge at once. you can start from the top shelf. remove food on that shelf, clean and dry and add everything back then continue down.

remove the bins and shelves – take your time and do this slowly since it’s glass.

*if you don’t have too much time, you can simply spray and wipe with a microfiber cloth without taking everything out. if the shelf or bin is very dirty, definitely take it out.

clean inside of the fridge – clean all of the surfaces with dish soap and warm water. work from top to bottom. you can also use a toothbrush for the harder parts to get into. don’t forget to dry.

wash the bins and shelves – i wash the bins and shelves as if i were washing dishes. dry well.

add everything back in – have a microfiber cloth ready and when you’re arranging everything back, check the expiration date, what you’re not really using and wipe down the container.

now that you have a clean fridge, let’s maintain it so we don’t really have to do another time consuming deep clean. i promise if you do this every time before your grocery shop, it will make such a huge difference and become your fridge routine.

before you go grocery shop, go through and do a clear out – this is a good time to check expiration dates, see what you need and how can you organize it better.

do a quick surface wipe down before adding anything new– soap and water or vinegar/water (50/50 solution)

add paper towel sheets on the bottom of the crisper drawer – not only do paper towels absorb the moisture and keep your veggies fresh it keeps it clean too.

replace your baking soda maybe 4x a year- this will help to keep your fridge nice and fresh.

buy organizing containers like egg crates, berry boxes, butter dish, glass bottle storage for milk, orange juice etc- they look great in the fridge and are extremely functional. the presentation of your fridge will make you want to keep it clean and organized.
